IT WAS OUR EXPECTATION THAT THE IMPORTED BLOODLINES WOULD ATTRACT VERY STRONG BIDDING, AND TWO OF THE TOP HALF DOZEN LOTS WERE INDEED THE "PENNY" OFFSPRING FROM CANADA BY PROGRESS AND MANAT. BUT IT WAS THE STRONG AND CONSISTENT BIDDING FOR THE MIGHTY "ROYALS" THAT WAS THE MOST REWARDING, VINDICATING THE YEARS OF BREEDING PHILOSOPHY AND SIRE CHOICES. - Brian Leslie's Say
Tiger Ranch Holstein Stud was founded in 1977 by my parents Brian and Fay Colbeck. From 1990 to 1994 it was run in partnership with Carol and myself and since 1994 by Carol and myself.
The major influence within the Tiger Ranch Herd is without doubt the cow family we refer to as the “Royals” all stemming from Tiger Ranch Legato Queen 2SBC. The Royals have an average classification score of VG87 - are in the top percentage of the herd for production - and have few peers for temperament. All animals in the herd to achieve type and production awards are from this cow family. The progeny of “Royal” bulls consistently out-perform progeny of many proven A.I. sires used within the herd as well as other maternal lines. In fact home bred bulls have given us our first Excellent cow, our first VG 1st lactation heifer, our first 1st lactation heifer to exceed 300kg butterfat and our first 3 year old second lactation heifer to exceed 400 kg butterfat. The “Royals” are a strong flush family averaging 11.5 viable embryo’s per flush.
