Current Vintages
2006 Tiger Ranch Chardonnay
The fruit for the 2006 Vintage was again sourced from the Eugenana Vineyard of Aileen Lynch. This is the second vintage of chardonnay under the Tiger Ranch label and the first of a commercial quantity. A small percentage of chardonnay from the newer section of the now subdivided Lake Barrington Vineyard is also incorporated in this wine. The fruit was harvested late in April and made using the wine-making techniques of Chablis in France, including regular lees stirrings in tank to create further complexity. The wine was finished with a short period of almost 3 months in 2 year old French oak barriques prior to bottling. The finished wine has a crisp, dry, elegant palate with nuances of peach, melon, grapefruit and lemon. This wine will complement shellfish (au naturale) and freshwater or reef fish prepared simply in lemon butter, as well as a selection of mild cheeses. Enjoy this wine within the next 2 to 3 years while these characters evolve further complexities in the bottle.
2004 Tiger Ranch Pinot Noir
The fruit for the 2004 Vintage was sourced from Lake Barrington Estate Vineyard with the kind support of Maree Taylor and her father Barry. The fruit was harvested late in May (almost 6 weeks behind the Tamar). The fruit displayed different ripening flavour patterns from the northern and southern sides of the vines, which have contributed to distinctive flavour complexities. 2004 was regarded as a difficult ripening year and this late season along with very traditional winemaking techniques of pigeage (the art of treading grapes), slow stem removal during pigeage and 15 months maturation in French oak barriques have helped create a wine with an elegant long palate ideally suited to Antipasto, Herb crusted Roast Lamb cooked Rosé (medium rare), pan fried Atlantic Salmon or a mature Cheese Selection. By modern standards a relatively moderate alcohol level and high acidity make for a very food friendly wine with a long fine tannin astringency. Expect this wine to cellar and soften gracefully for the next 2 to 3 years.
2005 Tiger Ranch Pinot Noir
The small parcel of fruit for the 2005 Pinot Noir Vintage was sourced from the Tamar Valley. Extensive triage (Inspection and culling of grapes for fault or damage) prior to fermentation, followed by 15 months maturation in French oak Barriques has resulted in a deep vibrant wine with an elegant, yet robust palate ideally suited to Game meat dishes, prime red meat cuts (cooked medium rare), duck, local game meats, or enjoy with smoked Salmon, caper berry, fetta cheese and red onion pizza. Decanting is recommended or allow to breath in the glass before drinking, this wine has a completely different dark fruit depth and palate structure to the 2004 and may is suited to steak and more robust meat dishes. Enjoy drinking or cellaring potential of 3 to 5 years.
Tiger Ranch "G"
Simply known as Tiger Ranch "G" our (Gewürztraminer) is currently out of stock - only being produced in miniscule quantities each year we only produce enough to cater for small orders, and our patronage of events like the North West Harvest Festival in Devonport, and Mural Festival in Sheffield each year. We hope to increase production over forthcoming years. Gewurz (spicy) traminer is made in the dry Alsace style, and is a fragrant aromatic wine often reminiscent of fruit salad and in a glass and rosewater aromas, on the palate it is crisp, clean, very refreshing and moderately acidic, ideal for summer days and pre-dinner drink or aperitif. Often overlooked and misunderstood this is truly a classic wine style ideally suited to this climatic region of Tasmania.
